Enlightenment and shyte
im’ma go away to a deserted island
and read and think and write and shyte
and then there’ll be a thunderbolt
and enlightenment will be mine
meh, thats not how it works,
enlightenment is shyte, overrated and all,
its a dark world, nobody gives a shyte about you!
so what if you want to be the ubermensch?
shyte, shyte, shyte, shyte, shyte!
how shall i make my choices!
tranquilo, tranquilo, silencio, silencio
no hay banda, no hay orquestra, it is all an illusion,
what people will come, what places will come,
will they bring ideas? will they bring peace?
or is it just a kaleidoscope that moves us all in turn?
this restless wanderer will soon find out.

Not sure if I could get your poem accurately enough. Maybe, my comment might help you decide. 🙂
There was a time, when I was 16-17, and I really wanted to know EVERYTHING. Back then I used to believe, and still I do, that the manner in which that could be done would largely be through science and mathematics, and then building upon my knowledge and finetuning it sufficiently to also be able to understand things like economics, and nebulous concepts like psychology and aesthetics.
But I also realized, that would never be possible (one could say, I gave up). Also, I realized there was no absolute purpose to my life, whatever I thought that purpose to be eventually was something that I myself arbitrarily assigned to it.
These two facts made me realize I was no more interested in enlightenment (“knowing everything”)! I still do find joy in understanding new things. But that joy is the end in itself, and the more of it I experience, “better” would my life seem when I would assess it just before the end (of course, that’s an assumption 😀 ). Plus, of course, not to forget I ‘enjoy’ experiencing joy! 😉
So eventually, I too find absolute enlightenment non-essential, and somewhat overrated.
But of course, there could be micro-enlightenments, which too are enjoyable and ends in themselves. 🙂

Thanks for the long response. Yes, I think you got my drift. I’ve been through that 16-17 phase too but around 19-20 🙂
What I am facing right now is a little different. It is a search for something meaningful to do with my time. I feel we are all agents of change, so it is good to question how your actions are changing the eco-system (not in a “green” way but a more general way) and find an activity to pursue whose outcome is “meaningful” to you. This is a rather arbitrary notion as you rightly point out, but I want it to be arbitrarily chosen by me than for me 🙂
BTW, the tranquilo… part is Spanish not Italian (although it might also be Italian since they are so similar!)
PS: When I say ‘you’, I mean ‘me’ 😉
